Cusco is known for its changing weather and various altitudinal zones, so it’s essential to pack clothing that protects you from the cold at night and keeps you comfortable and cool during sunny days.
The Cusco region has two well-defined seasons: the dry and rainy seasons. For each one, it’s important to bring the appropriate clothing. Below, we detail the Lares Trek weather month by month on this trekking route, considering altitude changes and the possibility of rain depending on the time of year.
Attention! This route spans different altitudes so the weather will vary constantly. Depending on when you trek, you might encounter rain or dry conditions traversing different habitats like in the Lares trek plus Short Inca Trail to Machu Picchu.
Rainy Season on the Lares Trek Peru
- Lares Trek in November
At high elevations, the climate is cold and freezy, with high temperatures of 10°C / 50°F and drop to -2°C / 28°F. Occasional rain is expected, and there is a possibility of snow. It’s essential to wear in layers, waterproof clothing and hiking boots to handle the weather conditions and terrain.
In the lower zones like the Lares’ hot springs or along the Sacred or Lares Valley, the climate is mild and humid, with maximum temperatures of 20°C / 68°F and minimums of 8°C / 46°F. Occasional rain is expected, especially in February, so it’s recommended to pack light, fresh clothing and a fleece jacket for cooler nights.

Lakes are a constant feature along the Lares Trek, regardless of the season because some of them disappear in the dry season.
- Lares Trek Peru in December
In the higher zones, temperatures drop, with maximums of 8°C / 46°F and minimums of -4°C / 25°F. Precipitation decreases, but there’s still a chance of snow and blizzard, especially at night. It’s crucial to bring warm, waterproof clothing and hiking boots to protect yourself from cold and moisture.
In the lower zones, the climate remains mild and dry, with maximum temperatures of 18°C / 64°F and minimums of 6°C / 43°F. Precipitation decreases, so light, fresh clothing is recommended, along with a jacket for the cool nights.

In the higher zones, temperatures slightly increase, with maximums of 9°C / 48°F and minimums of -3°C / 27°F. Precipitation remains low, but there’s still a chance of snow, especially at night. Shoulder Season on the Lares Trek
- Lares Trek Peru in April
Clear skies with bright sunshine for most of the day. Daytime temperatures are pleasant, ranging between 15°C to 21°C / 59°F to 70°F, ideal for hiking and exploring the beautiful landscapes of the Lares Trek. However, be prepared for a noticeable drop in temperatures at night, which can reach 0°C or even lower, especially in higher areas.
- Lares Trek in October
In October, daytime temperatures range between 23°C to 28°C / 73°F to 82°F, while nighttime temperatures stay between 5°C to 10°C / 41°F to 50°F. The days are sunny and warm, with cool nights. This is the last month of the dry season, with no rain at all.
Note: These months mark the end of both the rainy and dry seasons. During this time, rainfall is scarce or, in some cases, absent. However, I recommend maintaining a well-prepared luggage, as I’m sure you’ll need it.
